Energy concepts

We develop intelligent energy concepts for innovative building and site solutions, thus contributing towards an economic and sustainable energy supply.

The diverse options of local, renewable energy production, storage technologies and new forms of mobility are making building projects increasingly more complex.

We take a generalist and multidisciplinary approach to focus on finding integral solutions.

The energy systems are laid out in the preliminary study phase of a project. This requires both technical and spatial coordination of all involved disciplines. Expertise, creativity and a systematic assessment of the available options help to achieve significant savings with regard to investment and operating costs and take the idea of sustainability from theory into practice.
In the development of the integral energy concepts, a comparison is made between the different variants: energy supply, mobility solutions and energy and media distribution are carefully evaluated and optimised in terms of operating costs, investments and sustainability.

Questions and answers on energy concepts

How are energy concepts adapted to the specific requirements of a building, site or region?

No two buildings are the same. This also applies to sites and regions. They require energy concepts to meet their individual needs. We at Rapp ensure this. We analyse the technical, economic and ecological parameters of the properties in question using customised strategies and analysis tools.

We also create models and carry out profitability calculations. These focus on how energy consumption can be organised as efficiently as possible, without using excess electricity for the operation of a building, site or region, as this would result in higher costs as well as an additional burden on the environment.

Ideally, the creation of energy concepts starts parallel to the planning phase of the entire project. Our multidisciplinary approach brings many benefits. We look at the project from the perspective of different disciplines, which is why our team is composed of experts from various fields.

When creating energy concepts, we consider

  • Energy supply and energy production
  • Energy and media distribution
  • Mobility solutions

These are reviewed carefully for their potential operating costs. We also look at the expense from investment in infrastructure. Sustainability also plays a major role in our analysis.

By comparing different variants, we determine which is the most practicable in view of the above factors and aspects. This ultimately forms the basis for our energy concepts, which benefit our customers in many ways.

We'd be happy to answer your questions about energy concepts and other services that Rapp provides. For example, we carry out preliminary studies, strategic planning and decarbonisation measures. You can reach us by email or telephone. We are also represented at six locations in Switzerland.

How does the implementation of energy concepts contribute to reducing energy consumption and CO₂ emissions?

The responsible use of energy is, on the one hand, a question of cost. The less energy consumed, the less money has to be spent. On the other hand, environmental considerations are also important factors in energy consumption.

Electricity is still mostly generated from fossil fuels. Switzerland generates much of its electricity from clean hydropower. Nevertheless, it still gets some energy from coal-fired power stations. And these are responsible for high CO₂ emissions.

Energy optimisation is also important, naturally. However, the first goal is to decarbonise as much as possible.

By analysing the system conceptual phase, we at Rapp Energie-Systeme get a good overview at an early stage. This also enables us to understand the relationships between the individual components of the overall system. Because we start our work during the planning stage, we can compare different variants and options.

We quickly identify approaches that do not use energy sparingly. This might involve systems for which there are better solutions, or concepts that might be recognised as flawed and in urgent need of updating. Our approach allows for necessary, relevant decisions to be made at an early stage.

We take a multidisciplinary approach to the creation of energy concepts. Our team includes specialists in numerous areas relevant to energy utilisation for buildings, sites and regions. We have the competence to look at approaches and ideas from a variety of angles. That helps to reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions.

How does Rapp assess energy storage systems in its energy concepts?

Energy storage systems are gaining in importance. They allow for efficient energy storage, which is particularly useful if there are frequent peak loads. An energy storage system helps to prevent such loads.

With an energy storage system, the expansion of distribution networks can be significantly reduced. Depending on the components used, this can be for seconds, minutes, hours, but also for months and years. The purpose of such a system is to store energy that is not consumed immediately. If it is needed later, it is immediately available.

Energy storage systems eliminate the need to create a complex network of supply lines. This makes them an important economic factor. We at Rapp strive to design effective energy storage systems for our customers. This is part of our creation of energy concepts for buildings, sites and regions.

We create models and simulations to analyse the energy supply as precisely as possible. We analyse the use of energy storage systems in terms of their feasibility and cost-effectiveness. In this way, we determine whether utilisation makes sense at all and provide recommendations for optimum design.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about energy concepts or about our many other services. For example, on matters regarding photovoltaics and e-mobility. You can reach us by email and telephone.
